About the Secondary Section

At Mayoor School Siliguri, the Secondary Section (Classes IX–X) is designed to nurture academically confident, independent and future-ready learners. With a strong foundation in Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences, students progress beyond rote memorisation towards conceptual understanding, critical thinking, analytical reasoning and board examination preparedness.

Our curriculum integrates 21st-century competencies through digital literacy, financial literacy, artificial intelligence and essential life skills. Regular assessments, constructive feedback and personalised academic support ensure continuous progress, while career guidance helps students make informed decisions about future pathways.

Learning extends beyond textbooks through inquiry-based projects, research, podcasts, interviews, presentations and collaborative assignments. Blended learning and contemporary pedagogical approaches make classroom experiences engaging and meaningful. Equal emphasis is placed on co-curricular pursuits, Art Education, Health and Physical Education, fostering creativity, discipline and well-being.

Aligned with CBSE guidelines and the vision of NEP 2020, we strive to develop knowledgeable, adaptable and responsible individuals.

For families, Classes IX and X can feel like the most important years of school. Our approach is to keep that pressure in proportion: students work steadily from the start of Class IX, receive honest feedback at every step and are supported as individuals. The goal is a strong board result — and a young person who is ready for whatever comes next, in further study and in life.

Teaching and learning

How learning happens in the Secondary Section

The secondary years carry the weight of the board examinations, but strong results come from understanding, not memorising. Teaching balances examination practice with the skills students will need later.

01

Strong core subjects

Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences are taught for conceptual understanding, with regular practice in reasoning, analysis and written answers. Students learn to explain why an answer is correct, not only what it is.

02

Board examination preparedness

Regular assessments, constructive feedback and personalised academic support help each student track progress through Classes IX and X, identify gaps early and approach the CBSE Class X examination with a clear plan.

03

21st-century competencies

Digital literacy, financial literacy, artificial intelligence and essential life skills are woven into the curriculum, so students are comfortable with technology, money and decision-making as well as with textbooks.

04

Inquiry, research and expression

Inquiry-based projects, research, podcasts, interviews, presentations and collaborative assignments teach students to find reliable information, work in teams and present their thinking clearly and confidently.

05

Career guidance

Career guidance helps students and parents understand subject streams and future pathways after Class X, so decisions are based on a student’s interests, strengths and goals rather than guesswork.

06

Co-curriculars and well-being

Art Education, Health and Physical Education, music, sport and yoga remain part of the week. They build creativity, discipline and resilience, and give students healthy ways to manage the pressure of examination years.

For parents

What parents can expect

Two years, one board examination

Classes IX and X are taught as a two-year stage that ends in the CBSE Class X board examination. Students register for the board examination while in Class IX, which is why CBSE restricts new admission into Class X.

Regular, transparent feedback

Parents receive regular updates on assessments and progress through the school’s parent portal, available from the Parent Login button on this website, and at parent-teacher meetings.

Supervised study for boarders

Boarders follow structured evening prep with supervised study from 7:00 PM, special preparatory classes and personal academic mentorship, alongside sport and recreation.

Balance and well-being

Counselling and wellness support, sport and the arts help students stay healthy and motivated. The school encourages steady daily work over last-minute cramming.

Guidance for the next step

Career guidance sessions help students and parents think about interests, strengths and subject streams after Class X. Ask the school about the sessions planned for your child’s year and how parents can take part.

At home

How you can support your child

  • Help your child plan a weekly timetable that includes revision, rest and exercise.
  • Keep a calm, quiet study space and limit distractions during study hours.
  • Discuss career interests openly and attend career guidance sessions together.
  • Encourage regular sleep, meals and physical activity, especially before examinations.
  • Focus conversations on progress and effort rather than comparisons with others.
  • Stay in touch with teachers and act early on any area of difficulty.

Admission to the Secondary Section

New students are admitted to Class IX subject to available seats, usually at about fourteen years of age, with the latest marksheet and a transfer certificate. Because students register for the CBSE Class X examination while in Class IX, CBSE rules restrict new admission into Class X; families seeking a Class X seat should speak to the admission office about their case.

Mayoor School Siliguri’s published fee structure lists a monthly school fee of ₹13,800 for Classes IX and X, with one-time registration (₹5,000) and admission (₹60,000) fees and a refundable ₹20,000 security deposit.
